The School of Communication’s Homecoming tailgate began a little over 20 years ago. Alumni come from across the nation to the tailgate and talk with faculty and current students enrolled in the school.
Three new faculty members are now in the School of Communication to teach students and prepare them for a successful future as well as work on amazing research projects.
When it comes to glorious learning spaces, the School of Communication’s Social Media Analytics Command Center (SMACC) is at the top of the list. Not counting basic software and hardware improvements that made the SMACC lab more powerful, its equipment and furniture have essentially remained the same from the time it first opened in fall 2014 through spring 2022. Dr. Cheri J. Simonds, professor of communication, will deliver the second College of Arts and Sciences Fall Lecture on Thursday, October 27 with the talk, “Designing General Education Curriculum with Assessment in Mind.”
The College of Arts and Sciences will conduct a food drive to benefit the School Street Food Pantry, October 10–21. Collection boxes will be available in the College office and in all school/department offices.
A watch party for the live television broadcast of a gubernatorial debate between Democratic Governor JB Pritzker and Republican challenger Darren Bailey will be Thursday, October 6.
NPR member stations around the country voted to elect WGLT general manager R.C. McBride to the NPR Board of Directors. McBride will serve a three-year term beginning in November. McBride is a 30-year radio industry veteran spending the last six years as the general manager of WGLT. Under his leadership the station expanded local news
