The School of IT is proud to recognize our alumni who were honored for their professional achievements and community contributions during 2021.

Dr. Sumesh Philip is leading an initiative for the School of IT to host the GenCyber Summer Camp at Illinois State University in July 2022. GenCyber camps are a part of the federal government’s solution to the nation’s shortfall of skilled cybersecurity workers. The GenCyber camp is a free residential summer camp supported by a grant from the National Security Agency and the National Science Foundation.
Eddie Becker, an Information Systems –System analytics student; Mathew Weiner ’20, a recent Computer Science graduate; Erik Wenth, a Cybersecurity student; Zach Oettle, a student of Networking and Telecommunications Management; and Ryan Skare, an Information Systems student with a focus on Web Application Development were teamed up randomly in IT 391- last summer and completed a successful project for a local business – The Recipe Girls.

Dr. Shaoen Wu, State Farm Endowed Chair Professor in the School of Information Technology, has received a two-year, $235,521 grant from the National Science Foundation for research related to In-band full-duplex (IBFD) wireless communication technique.

After being away from campus for over a year, students officially came back for in-person learning on August 16. Students spent the 2020-2021 academic year distanced, virtual, and masked, but Redbirds are ready to return to a normal campus life moving forward.
