The National Board Resource Center (NBRC) celebrates the National Board Class of 2022 and the 127 new Illinois National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) who achieved certification per the December 10 score release, as well as the 336 Illinois teachers who renewed their National Board certification through Maintenance of Certification.
The goal of the National Center for Urban Education (NCUE) is to support Illinois State University’s rich history of teacher education through a focus on social justice and community-integrated teaching.
Cristen Chapman, Philip Culcasi, Kerri Largo, Mary Lopez, Jennifer Trejo, and Sharon Ponder-Ballard, all National Board Certified Teachers, and Puja Ramaswamy and Lisa Thyer, National Board Candidates, were all named 2022 Golden Apple Finalists. They are among the 30 finalists for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Dr. Justin Antos, Amber George, and Kimberly Radostits, all National Board Certified Teachers, and Ashley Kannan, National Board Candidate, were all named 2022 Regional Teachers of the Year. They are among the 10 finalists for the ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) Illinois State Teacher of the Year Award.
The National Board Resource Center at Illinois State University has been recognized by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards for the excellence modeled by its staff in supporting Illinois teachers working to achieve their National Board certification in 2021.

Maddi Bodine, a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) and Zebulon “Zeb” Holder, NBCT candidate, were named 2021 Golden Apple Excellence in Teaching winners. They are among 10 Illinois teachers chosen for this honor. This year, the Golden Apple Excellence in Teaching winners were selected from over 708 nominees from all across the state—a new record for Illinois.
