Since 1994, Illinois State University has honored faculty and staff members with the David A. Strand Diversity Achievement Award.

“As we near the 30-year anniversary of the David Strand Diversity Award, we want to reflect on its legacy,” said Professor Maura Toro-Morn, a past recipient of the award who will take part in a panel of current and former award winners. “We want to express what the Strand Award has meant for many of us, and—more importantly—we want to gather and celebrate with Dr. Strand.”

The panel, which will reflect on the institutional changes since the inception of the award, will be from 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the Circus Room of the Bone Student Center. The University community is invited to attend.

“This is a chance to discuss the contribution panelists made to equity, inclusion, diversity, access, and anti-racism at Illinois State University,” said Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer Doris Houston. “It is a way to honor our current and past recipients, and to inspire others in their continuing equity work.”
